TORINO ATP FINALS 2021

Eight stars shining under the sky of Turin

September 2021

The 2021 ATP Finals (officially Nitto ATP Finals 2021), the first Italian edition that will feature the city of Turin until 2025, have been closed for a few weeks.

The former capital of Italy, in fact, won the prestigious international competition, not for one, but for five editions and this has significant economic repercussions. According to estimates by several experts, this prestigious event not only promoted the recovery of tourism in Turin but above all gave impetus to the creation of many jobs, as well as an increased prestige over the city, already obtained thanks to the Turin Winter Olympics of 2006. We are talking about the creation of over 1000 jobs and revenues of over EUR 640 million. Excellent numbers, especially after two years of closures and suffering for tourism, workers, restaurateurs, and all the inhabitants of the city, were brought down by the pandemic from COVID-19. With this event reborn in the Piedmontese capital the love of sport, the desire to live, celebrate and share « all together passionately ».

With great success, the highly expected and famous tennis tournament was held from 14th to 21st November on the indoor cement field of Pala Alpitour, seeing the victory in two sets (6-4, 6-4) of the number 3 in the world, the German Alexander Zverev against the number two, The Russian Daniil Medvedev. In an almost error-free match, the German showed his incredible skill, confirming a great form, even after the success against Novak Djokovic (number 1 in the world) in a semi-final fought and qualitatively high that so it seemed the real final of the tournament.

Italian tennis was also a great success, with two stars shining under the sky of Turin: Matteo Berrettini and Jannik Sinner. The race was certainly a bit unlucky for the first (injured during the first match of the competition, following which the second took over), both tennis players have shown to have the character and skills to be among the top 10 in the world, deserved a place in this final and not disfiguring in the face of the most formidable challenges.

The ATP Finals under the Mole Antonelliana is given, then, appointment to 2022, after a more than positive debut at Pala Alpitour for the city, Italian tennis, and sport in general.
