Italy is a wonderful country, full of culture and good food, but in practice and from an economic point of view why is it worth investing in Italy?

———————

Italy is the third largest economy in the Eurozone and the eighth largest in the world, with a domestic market of 60 million people, a total GDP of $2.11 billion and a GDP per capita of more than $30,000 (April 2021). The country is also a major gateway to a market of 500 million consumers in the European Union and 270 in North Africa and the Middle East.

———————

Made in Italy is a driving force of the Italian economy: those who invest in Italy gain access to an immense wealth of intellectual and specialist knowledge that is unique in the world in all fields, and extraordinary know-how in strategic sectors such as automotive, machinery, fashion and design, industry and food and wine. In recent years, Italy has also opened up to foreign investment in sensitive sectors such as energy, networks, telecommunications and transport.

In this context, those investing in the country can count on a dense network of Italian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and industrial districts that are among the most innovative in Europe: the percentage of SMEs that have introduced product and process, strategic and organisational innovations is higher than the EU average. In addition, Italy is the country in Europe with the highest rate of acceleration (85% has accelerated on the digital transformation, compared to 75.3% of the European average).

———————

Numerous business opportunities are therefore available, including the fact that the ‘Bel Paese’ hosts numerous research and development centres of excellence. There are currently 11 Italian universities ranked among the 500 best in the world and, with reference to some leading faculties, four of our national universities rank among the 10 best in the world.

Italy is the fifth country in the world in terms of the ‘impact factor’ of scientific publications produced (average number of citations obtained) and twelfth in terms of investment in biomedical research. In view of this global importance, many Italian researchers manage important European R&D centres and networks, such as the CERN particle physics laboratory, and structures of high competence and transnational interest in sectors such as aerospace and earth observation.

——————

Italy is the second largest manufacturing economy in Europe and the fifth largest in the world, with a manufacturing surplus of over USD 100 billion. Notably, in the pharmaceutical sector, where both national and multinational companies operate successfully, Italy has asserted its role as Europe’s leading manufacturer, with pharmaceutical production amounting to €34 billion in 2019.

From a more sectoral point of view, Italy is the European country with the highest percentage of recycling of all waste (79.3%, double the EU average of 39.2%), as well as one of the most sustainable agriculture in Europe.

Finally, the ‘Bel Paese’ is strongly open to foreign investment: multinational companies in Italy produce more than 20% of national turnover, employ 11% of the workforce and are responsible for 26% of national goods exported.

March 2022

1. L’India dispone di un’ampia forza lavoro (circa la metà della popolazione ha meno di 25 anni) con buoni livelli di istruzione e conoscenza della lingua inglese;

2. Negli ultimi 15 anni l’India è cresciuta ad un tasso medio annuo del 7,5%, uno dei più alti al mondo;

3. L’economia indiana è diversificata e presenta un efficiente settore privato dei servizi;

A meeting between history, food and wine passion and sustainability

January 2022

The 91st edition of the Alba White Truffle Fair, an international event that has fascinated lovers of the genre for almost a century, has just ended.

Welcomed in the beautiful Langhe, hilly area of lower Piedmont located between the provinces of Cuneo and Asti, tourists this year were many: over 90 thousand people from around the world have decided to participate in this event lasted nine weeks, despite the restrictions due to the pandemic by COVID-19 and a stingy year of truffles. The truffle has, in fact, been so much desired this year and, although the quotations have always remained very high – even today prices do not drop below 450 euros per ounce -, the visitors were not discouraged and crowded both the events of the Fair, both the tables of restaurants and hotels, recording a higher influx even in 2019.

The Italians were certainly the most numerous, in absolute terms, followed by Swiss and French, demonstrating the prevalence of proximity tourism due to travel restrictions. The participation of the United States citizens was decidedly significant, as it was the fourth in the list of presences at the Fair, followed by Germans, English and Dutch.

Open from 9 October to 5 December 2021 in the Courtyard of La Maddalena, the Fair was held in total safety for visitors and exhibitors, thanks to the control of the green pass and the quota of access, necessary to ensure adequate distancing, in addition to the great responsibility of all the participants, who have been conscious of the historical context in which we live and have acted accordingly.

The undisputed protagonist was of course the tuber magnatum (commonly known as white truffle), which in this edition was not only the star of the stands, but also other interesting activities, first of all the Alba Truffle Show, cooking shows with world-famous starred chefs, that, in 40 appointments dispersed in the nine weeks of the Fair, have always been sold out, with over 50% of foreign presences recorded.

Then, of course, the debut for the first edition of Crossed Sustainability, a series of meetings that for three days led to dialogue between them the world of sustainability from the social, economic and environmental point of view, following this year Fair’s main motto «Connected with nature» and demonstrating how this event can always prove so contemporary, addressing topics of great relevance.

Eight stars shining under the sky of Turin

September 2021

The 2021 ATP Finals (officially Nitto ATP Finals 2021), the first Italian edition that will feature the city of Turin until 2025, have been closed for a few weeks.

The former capital of Italy, in fact, won the prestigious international competition, not for one, but for five editions and this has significant economic repercussions. According to estimates by several experts, this prestigious event not only promoted the recovery of tourism in Turin but above all gave impetus to the creation of many jobs, as well as an increased prestige over the city, already obtained thanks to the Turin Winter Olympics of 2006. We are talking about the creation of over 1000 jobs and revenues of over EUR 640 million. Excellent numbers, especially after two years of closures and suffering for tourism, workers, restaurateurs, and all the inhabitants of the city, were brought down by the pandemic from COVID-19. With this event reborn in the Piedmontese capital the love of sport, the desire to live, celebrate and share « all together passionately ».

With great success, the highly expected and famous tennis tournament was held from 14th to 21st November on the indoor cement field of Pala Alpitour, seeing the victory in two sets (6-4, 6-4) of the number 3 in the world, the German Alexander Zverev against the number two, The Russian Daniil Medvedev. In an almost error-free match, the German showed his incredible skill, confirming a great form, even after the success against Novak Djokovic (number 1 in the world) in a semi-final fought and qualitatively high that so it seemed the real final of the tournament.

Italian tennis was also a great success, with two stars shining under the sky of Turin: Matteo Berrettini and Jannik Sinner. The race was certainly a bit unlucky for the first (injured during the first match of the competition, following which the second took over), both tennis players have shown to have the character and skills to be among the top 10 in the world, deserved a place in this final and not disfiguring in the face of the most formidable challenges.

The ATP Finals under the Mole Antonelliana is given, then, appointment to 2022, after a more than positive debut at Pala Alpitour for the city, Italian tennis, and sport in general.
